HARAMBEE RITE OF PASSAGE ADULT TRAINING A rite of passage is an initiation of a young person into adulthood. In indigenous African societies, village elders assumed the responsibilities of systematically socializing children by providing them with a holistic education that would prepare them to be upstanding citizens of the adult community. This training is designed to prepare adults of African descent to facilitate the rite of passage process.
Upon the completion of the workshop, the participants will be able to: • Comprehend the rite of passage concept and procedure • Create culturally relevant activities and projects • Understand the dimensions and influences of youth culture • Infuse multiple intelligence activities • Demonstrate the art and science of effective facilitation • Exemplify the seven core norms of the Harambee Rite of Passage process (Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith) • Initiate methods to inform community members of the rite of passage system and the seven norms • Establish the criteria and standards of excellence for building community
